BODathon


The BODathon is a fitness event concocted by Beachbody CEO Carl Daikeler to motivate him to get into peak shape using Beachbody On Demand. Read the full Team Beachbody post here.

Who is willing to commit to doing this with me?! The 4 workouts for the ‪#‎BODathon‬ are, P90X’s Core Synergistics, Body Beast’s Total Body, 21 Day Fix EXTREME’s Plyo Fix Extreme and INSANITY: THE ASYLUM Relief is the cool down.  All are in ‪#‎BeachbodyOnDemand‬ as well as all of the workouts on the schedule training you for the #BODathon. 9 weeks of training, starting Sept 1st, leading up to the big day on Oct 31st .

BODathon Training Schedule
Goal: To nail P90X Core Synergistics, Body Beast Total Body, and 21 Day Fix Extreme Plyo Fix Extreme. Back-to-back.
Requirements for Success: Excellent functional strength—particularly core and hip mobility, explosive power, muscular endurance, and recuperative properties.
Training Targets: Total body conditioning, focusing on improvements in both power and endurance, along with balance, mobility, and highly functional core strength.
Overview: Two 3.5 week blocks, with a recovery week in the middle, and a taper at the end.

Healthy Valentine Treats



Fresh fruit skewers. 

Yum!  This one is self explanatory. 

Frozen Greek Yogurt Covered Strawberries

Ingredients:
Organic Greek vanilla yogurt
Organic fresh ripe strawberries         

Directions:
Slice strawberries in half. Spoon Greek yogurt onto a shallow dish and dip the strawberries in the yogurt. Place dipped strawberries in a plastic container lined with parchment paper and freeze.

Raspberries and Cream Popsicles

Ingredients:
1 cup heavy cream or coconut cream
1 cup low fat Greek yogurt (I used organic)
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 cup frozen organic raspberries (If using fresh omit orange juice)
2-3 tablespoons orange juice
 
Directions:
In a blender puree raspberries and orange juice.
In a bowl whip heavy cream and maple syrup until soft peaks form. Fold in yogurt and half of the raspberry puree.
Snip the top edge of the Dixie cups with scissors for easy peeling. Fill Dixie cups1/4 of the way with the whipped mixture. Add about a teaspoon of the raspberry puree and spread evenly using your finger over the top of the whipped mixture.

Fill the cup with remaining whipped puree. Place a pop stick in the middle of each Popsicle and freeze 4-5 hours before serving

Meal Prepping

Meal prepping is all over the social media sites.  Go to anyone of them and look up the hashtag #MealPrep.  There are a lot of great sites and users who are sharing what they are doing.  You can get tons of ideas! 

Have you ever prepared and readied your meals for the whole week? Well this was a first for me!! To help keep me on track during the work week I decided to prep all of my meals for the week.  Disclosure: I prepped my meals and my daughters, lunch and dinner every for 2 people (4 meals/day).  I only had 12 storage containers so I was only able to prep 3 days for each of us.  I will need to prep the remainder of the week on Wednesday.

I used the 21 Day Fix eating guide to figure out what I would be eating each meal and used the containers to measure my food for each day. 

Meal 1 - Chocolate Shakeology, 1/2 banana, 1 cup Almond milk (1 red, 1 purple, 1 yellow)
Meal 2 - 2 hard boiled eggs, almonds (1 red, 1 orange)
Meal 3 - Ground Turkey, bell peppers, onions, green beans, brown rice (1 red, 2 green, 1 yellow)
Meal 4 - Apple, peanut butter (1 purple, 1 tsp.)
Meal 5 - Baked chicken, green beans, 1/2 potato (1 red, 2 green, 1 yellow)

 
 

Having my meals all ready to go definitely helped me today when I was rushing around in the morning and again in the evening after a long day at work and then doing my workout.  Will probably tweak this as we go from week to week. Some weeks I can see prepping lunches and snacks only and have a dinner cooking in the crock pot or do a salad.
 
I really loved the turkey/pepper meal I threw together.  Lots of seasoning and great taste. Garlic, ground turkey, salt, pepper and Cajun seasoning.  Sautéed the onions, red and orange bell peppers all together in a little bit of coconut oil.

5 Tips That Make Meal Planning Easy

Chances are, you probably kick off each week with every intention of eating healthy, home-cooked, veggie-packed meals. Then reality happens, and the next thing you know, you’re grabbing fast food on the way home from work or staring into your empty fridge until you give up and polish off a bag of chips for dinner.

A few simple meal planning strategies can help you get your nutritional game on pointand you don’t have to be a domestic warrior to pull it off. Here are five to get you started.



1. Set Your Goals
Your nutritional needs are the foundation of your meal plan. So before you start bookmarking recipes, do a quick assessment of your personal goals. What do you need to eat more of? Less of? Do you have a target calorie count? What foods are best for you? “My main piece of advice for someone who wants to start meal planning is to find out what foods are right for his or her body,” says Sagi Kalev, creator of Body Beast. “When you meet the body’s fuel requirements, hunger disappears. Food cravings are nonexistent. Energy, mood, mental function, and well-being all improve. When that happens, it becomes very easy to follow a diet plan.”

2. Make a Master Plan
 Once you know what you need to eat, compile a master list of recipes. That way, you can pull easily from that list rather than combing through cookbooks every week or falling into the rut of repeating what you made last week. Use whatever organizational system works for youPinterest, meal planning apps, index cards in a recipe box, or even an Excel spreadsheet. “When I find a recipe I want to make, I print it out and add it to a binder,” says Autumn Calabrese, creator of 21 Day Fix. “Each week I go though it, find a new one, and add those ingredients to my shopping list. It’s important to keep variety in your plan so you don’t get bored.” When you’re planning your meals for the week, it’s okay to leave some flexibility. Some people make a school cafeteria-style calendar and schedule every last snack in advancebut it’s also okay to stock up on healthy staples and then wing it at mealtime.

3. Shop Strategically
Make a grocery list based on your favorite healthy foods and any new recipes you’ve pulled. “Having your favorite things ready to go is key,” Autumn says. “Make a list of the foods you know are a part of your meal plan, and make sure you stock up on those. I always have tons of fresh fruits and veggies in my fridge, along with a few different types of proteins, peanut butter, raw nuts, and lots of seasonings. This way, no matter what I want to make for a meal, I have the ingredients I need.”

4. Bang Out the Prep Work
When you get home from the grocery store, don’t just stuff your purchases in the fridge. Peel your carrots, slice your cucumbers, scrub your sweet potatoes, and dice your onions. Not only does it become a one-and-done task rather than a daily chore, but it makes you more likely to grab those healthy foods when you’re hungry. “Prepping your food is a huge part of success,” Autumn says. “I cook enough protein to get me through at least three days. I also cook a few sweet potatoes and sometimes a little bit of brown rice. This way, when I’m running out the door, everything is made and I can grab it and go.”

5. Don’t Sabotage Yourself
Once you’ve planned and prepped, the hard work is done. Now all you have to do is avoid the usual stumbling blocks. One common mistake, Sagi says, is trying to eat foods you don’t really like. (If you hate the taste of kale, you’re not going to grab it when you’re hungry.) And Autumn cautions against buying junk food. (It’s easier to avoid ice cream when it’s not in your freezer.) But as long as you plan ahead, shop for healthy foods, and keep some go-to recipes in your arsenal, healthy eating will become a no-brainer. “When you eat right for your own body needs, you feel terrific,” Sagi says. “So it becomes very natural to gravitate towards eating properly.”

21 Day Fix, No Joke

21 Day Fix is No Joke!  Everyday real people are seeing great results with this program and I want to share my top 3 reasons why. 



1.  Program is only 21 days long with 30 minute workouts.  For some it is hard and scary to commit to a 90 day program, but 21 days is doable for anyone.  Short achievable goals build us up for success.  30 minute workouts make it easy for anyone to "find the time" to workout.  You have to throw the "I don't have enough time" excuse right out the window.  EVERYONE has 30 minutes.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania recruited 166 people to participate in a weight-loss program either alone or with three friends or family members. Among those who embarked on the program with friends, 95 percent completed the program compared to only 76 percent of those who dieted solo.
